All Berkeley Unified students may eat a free nutritious breakfast every day as part of the Universal Breakfast Program. Breakfast items include fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and a muffin or bread.
Students may bring lunch from home, or buy school lunch for $4.00 daily. You can prepay online at EZSchoolPay.com or by bring a check to the school office to set up an account. Children may also pay with cash.
Berkeley Unified has a School Lunch Initiative (SLI), which has two goals: To serve more nutritious and delicious, freshly prepared meals using locally grown food to all of our students, and to educate children in kitchen, garden and academic classrooms about their food choices and the impact those choices have on their health, the community and the environment. For more info, visit BUSD Nutrition Services
Families will receive an Elementary School Menu at the beginning of the school year that shows the breakfasts and lunches for the entire school year. Lunch Menu
Free and reduced price lunches are available to those who qualify. Families will all receive the BUSD Free and Reduced Price Lunch application in their Thursday Folders – the district really needs everyone to fill this out (one per household) even if you know you are not eligible. apply for free/reduced price lunch online, regardless of income. If you do that instead of filling the paper form out, just forward the confirmation email you get from the online system to BAM Secretary Mrs. Jones (email@example.com) and your child’s classroom teacher (firstname.lastname@example.org) – the school wants to know you filled out the form! For help, call the Office of Family Equity and Engagement at (510) 644-8991.
If you want to use an online account to pay for your child’s school lunches, you can set this up at www.ezschoolpay.com so that your child does not have to carry cash to school to buy lunch.
Using EZSchoolPay you can add funds, check your balance, and be reminded when your balance is low. With funds in the account, your child just gives his/her name or Student ID card (distributed in Cafeteria later) to buy lunch. You will need your child’s school ID number to set up this account. You can find your student’s ID on last year’s report card. New families, check in with Mrs.Jones for your child’s student ID. She will also be giving K teachers a list of student IDs once the classrooms are finalized, so you can get your child’s ID at that time.
You may also always just either send your child with cash ($4.00) for lunch, or go into cafeteria during drop-off in AM and pre-pay Ms. Angel directly.
LUNCH FROM HOME
If your child brings a lunch from home, please pack nutritious foods in a lunch box or sturdy bag, striving for a zero waste lunch with reusable, recyclable or compost degradable packaging.
We want to encourage all students to develop healthy eating habits. As part of our school-wide rules and BUSD nutrition guidelines candy, chips, soda and gum are not allowed at school.
